About Flytown News

Flytown News is an independent news publication launched in August 2026 by me, Rachel Wenning. It is a more formal version of some past social media accounts where I posted information on City Council meetings, hearings, and legislation.

What is Flytown? It was a Columbus neighborhood that was home to many immigrants in the late 1800s and early to mid-1900s. It sat where parts of Victorian Village and Harrison West sit today. It included the adjacent area that was demolished in the 1950s to create the Goodale Expressway, which became I-670.

I chose the name Flytown News because I want to remember parts of our city that were destroyed, and what could have been. We can use that knowledge to stop the similar things from happening again. Columbus is full of great people who work every day to help each other. My ultimate goal in writing Flytown News is to help those people make this city what they want it to be.

The general tone

Flytown News is a personal effort so it will be full of my own opinions. I am writing from a position to the left of everyone in office in Columbus. I understand there are going to be some people reading who are Democrats and get uncomfortable when they read criticism of other Democrats. This may not be the place for them and that is what it is. My summaries of the City Council agendas will be useful to just about anyone who wants to be up to date, regardless of political views.
